University of Advancing Technology has a long standing tradition of giving back via blood drives.
Giving the Gift of Life
Every day, over 600 blood donors are needed to support patients in 62 Arizona hospitals. Vitalant, which supplies 90% of the state's hospitals, plays a critical role in meeting these transfusion needs. Unfortunately, fewer Americans are donating blood, even though there's no alternative to human blood for those who depend on it to survive. Donating blood is a life-saving act of generosity—a simple yet heroic way to give the gift of life to patients in need.
The need for blood donations is constant, as blood has a limited shelf life and must be replenished regularly to maintain a stable supply. Patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, trauma care, and other medical emergencies rely on the generosity of donors to survive. Each donation has the potential to save up to three lives, making every contribution a powerful and direct way to impact the community. UAT is stepping up to the challenge and has been hosting routine blood drives every semester for the last decade. Uniting students and staff, UAT's blood drives have become a fixture in the Tempe community.
From Staff to Students
UAT's Manager of Student Accounts and Records, Renee Grauberger has taken the reins in facilitating the events for UAT. Grauberger, who has a personal record of over 34 donations, finds solace in coordinating these events and notes "receiving the reports on how each successful donation impacts the broader community provides me and all the donors with so much fulfillment that we are positively making a difference." Under her leadership, UAT's blood drives have become a cornerstone of community engagement, drawing students, staff, and local donors together for a shared purpose. Grauberger hopes to inspire even more participants, emphasizing that every donation has the power to change lives with the next drive slated for June 5th.
