University of Advancing Technology (UAT) celebrated Constitution Day on September 17 with a challenge built for a community that loves solving problems, thinking creatively and, of course, competing.

UAT students, faculty and staff gathered on campus in Tempe, Arizona, for a Constitution Day Taskmaster challenge created by Career Services Advisor, Jake Henningsen. Rather than simply reflecting on the history of the U.S. Constitution, participants were put to the test through a series of trivia challenges and tasks designed to put their knowledge of the nation’s founding document to work.

The timing was fitting. Constitution Day commemorates September 17, 1787, when delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia.

Participants tackled questions covering the Constitution, its amendments and lesser-known moments from American history. As the competition progressed, students put their knowledge and problem-solving skills to the test, with Amador Leon ultimately emerging as the Taskmaster champion and taking home the event prize.

For UAT, Constitution Day provided an opportunity to connect an important piece of American history with the university’s own culture of curiosity, problem-solving and hands-on learning. 

The Constitution Day conversation continued beyond the competition with the launch of Season 3 of UAT’s podcast. Dean of Faculty Ally Videtic joined host Robert Walker to explore what constitutional principles such as free speech, privacy and due process mean in an increasingly digital world, connecting the nation’s founding principles to technology, digital citizenship and respect both online and on campus.

The event was a reminder that understanding the foundations of our government is not just about looking back at history. It is also about engaging with the ideas, rights and responsibilities that continue to shape the country today.
