The University of Advancing Technology (UAT) is proud to announce the new Hometown Tempe Union High School District Scholarship, a scholarship created to support students from the community UAT has called home for more than four decades.

The scholarship is available to graduating seniors from the Tempe Union High School District who meet UAT’s admissions requirements and choose to continue their education at UAT. Eligible high school sophomores and juniors may also apply for early consideration, provided they ultimately graduate from a Tempe Union High School District school.

The Hometown Tempe Scholarship provides $48,000 in total scholarship support, credited evenly over eight consecutive semesters, or four academic years. Recipients must enroll full-time, attend UAT on campus, and begin their studies in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.

For UAT, the scholarship represents more than financial assistance. It is an investment in the students, schools and community that surround the university.

The scholarship reflects UAT’s broader commitment to supporting the community it calls home. Chancellor Valerie Cimarossa says that commitment extends beyond higher education and into the schools and students throughout Tempe. “UAT has made a concerted effort to support the area we exist in and love. From Tempe high school to middle and elementary, we want to make STEM an achievable fact instead of a vague concept for our hometown students.” The Hometown Tempe Union High School District Scholarship is a natural extension of that effort, creating a meaningful pathway for local students to turn an interest in technology into an education and, ultimately, a career.

UAT has long believed that technology education should be accessible, relevant and connected to the community. As a technology-focused university located in the heart of Tempe, UAT sees an opportunity to create a more direct pathway for local students who are interested in technology, innovation and the careers of the future.

The Hometown Tempe Union High School District Scholarship is designed to make that pathway more tangible.

Rather than simply encouraging students to consider a career in technology, the scholarship gives Tempe Union graduates an opportunity to pursue a technology-focused degree right here in their hometown — with significant financial support along the way.

Students selected for the scholarship will join UAT with the expectation that they will remain engaged in their education, maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress and uphold the University Code of Conduct. The scholarship can be renewed for up to eight academic semesters as long as recipients continue to meet the award requirements.

The scholarship also reflects UAT's broader commitment to building relationships with Tempe schools and creating opportunities for students long before they reach college.

From elementary and middle school STEM experiences to high school outreach, camps, partnerships and now a dedicated scholarship pathway, UAT is working to make technology education feel less like a distant possibility and more like an achievable part of a student's future.

For Tempe Union students, the message is simple: You don't have to leave your hometown to start building your future in technology.

The Hometown Tempe Union High School District Scholarship is one more way UAT is investing in the next generation of innovators — starting with the students right in our own backyard.
