Digital Maker & Fabrication (DMF) Professor Ryan Murray took a group of University of Advancing Technology (UAT) students on a field trip to Airpark Signs where they had the opportunity to tour their facilities in Tempe, AZ. Professor Murray describes the highlights of the tour below.
Gretchen and Veronica from Airpark Signs provided us with an excellent tour of their facility, offering valuable insight into their operations. We began in the print shop, where the smell of vinyl and ink filled the air as we got to see the large-format printing and vinyl cutting processes. They have the capability to print on any material up to two inches thick.
Next, we moved to the fabrication shop, where a wide variety of signs are produced using steel, aluminum, and plastics. We had the opportunity to see their advanced equipment in action, including laser cutters, CNC routers, and a powerful waterjet cutter that operates at 50,000 psi, capable of cutting through up to three inches of aluminum.

One of the highlights of the tour was the conference room, where they had prepared an impressive display of their work for us to check out along with some cookies. This is when we also met the hiring manager, who provided valuable insights on the job application process.
As an added bonus, they took us to their "boneyard" of old signs, that each student got to explore and take home a letter of their own.
