National Digital Learning Day - Explore UAT's Online/Hybrid Learning Model Updates

At University of Advancing Technology (UAT), innovation is at the heart of everything we do. Since 2017, UAT has been at the forefront of digital learning, pioneering a hybrid/online education model that gives students the flexibility to learn anytime, anywhere. As technology continues to evolve, UAT remains committed to adapting, innovating, and pushing the boundaries of education, ensuring that every student—whether on campus or online—receives a dynamic and immersive learning experience that reflects the realities of today’s tech-driven industries.

As we continue refining our online/hybrid learning model, our goal is to create a smoother and more efficient experience for students. While many aspects of the program remain the same, we’re implementing key adjustments to tuition and scheduling to enhance clarity and streamline processes.

What’s Staying the Same?

We’re keeping many of the core aspects of our program intact to ensure consistency and flexibility for students:

  • Flexible Learning Options:
    • All students (except international students) can take classes in person, online, or asynchronously.
    • The course delivery method remains unchanged— Faculty will teach their courses in person in the designated classroom.
      • With the exception of the few faculty who are designated as Virtual Faculty, who will have the assistance of program support specialists or other faculty to ensure the class is set up, logged in and ready for virtual students and to assist with student needs.
  • Academic Standards & Support:
    • Academic quality and support services will remain consistent across all modalities.
    • Student Services will continue to enroll students in their courses.

What’s Changing?

  • All students who start by February 25, 2025 will take 12 credits per term – 2 courses per 7.5 weeks.
  • All online/hybrid courses will run 7.5 weeks
    • With the exception of one 5-week course each major start (jump start), new students may opt into if they wish to start earlier
      • If a new student opts into the 5-week jump start course, their first semester will be 20 weeks instead of 15. They will still take 12 credits or more over the term.
      • Students would still be packaged for full time level over 20 weeks instead of 15 and the student can opt to take
        • A jump start 5-week course and three 7.5 week courses
        • A jump start 5-week course and four 7.5 week courses

Current Students

  • Current students have the option to stay at their current tuition rate and progression (9 or 12 credit) until they graduate
  • Any current student who wishes to change programs will move to the 12-credit model
    • Their tuition rate will now be the hybrid tuition rate, published in the catalog.
  • Current students will move to 7.5 week courses beginning February 25, 2025 – If a course is not developed in the 7.5 week module by this time, UAT may choose to run a 5-week course. However, All 5-week courses will be redeveloped to 7.5 week by September 2025.
  • Current students enrolled in syncflex will be given the option to move to Hybrid and obtain the new tuition rate and will be required to take 12 credits minimum per semester.

New Students

  • First time students with less than 60 transfer credits will be eligible for a first year scholarship of $2000, applied to their first two semesters ($1000 per semester)
  • Student who start courses by May 2025 will take 12 credits per term – 2 courses at a time
    • Students may request to take additional credits based on course and seat availability, as well as their SAP status up to 21 credits.

These updates are driven by our commitment to student success and our dedication to adapting based on student feedback. Many students have shared that the pace of a 5-week course can feel overwhelming, so we’re shifting to a more balanced 7.5-week format that allows for deeper learning and better retention. By simplifying tuition and scheduling, we’re also ensuring a more predictable academic path, reducing confusion around course dates, and making financial aid more transparent. With these modifications, students can focus on mastering their coursework, staying on track for graduation, and ultimately achieving their academic goals with greater confidence and support.
